The Parting

The moment has come,

We both dreaded,

And yet awaited,

With a stony silence.

And today,

the mist is thicker, the light is dimmer.

and the world is a graveyard.

I reach out,

to hold your hand,

but it’s not there.

I see a tear in an eye, a tremble on a lip

And as I reach out to soothe

.. nothing is there.

The mist of the world is heavy and cold,

I see you,

but you are not there.

And so we part,

I, with the memories of your love, your warmth, your charm.

And you remembering,

that I was a coward!
